So Ive been having exhaust manifold gasket woes lately. The manifold with a GM gasket leaked a little so I wanted to fix it. Put in a fel pro, it didnt cut it cause the manifold was warped too much. I got some seal 4 good aluinum gaskets that are like 8 layers and they worked, until I did a 1-2 romp. Then it ticked like a ****. So I ripped the manifold off and sent it to a machine shop to be planed. Hopefully it wont warp anytime soon again
Heres the aftermath

Turbo side. The manifold warped pretty bad when the manifold bolt at the front of head broke and I had to drive it home from vermont like that. Like there was at least a 1/8 inch gap. I put a new bolt in and it sucked the manifold back towards the head and worked for a while but this proves that its still way off.
Yeah stock manifold side has not had single issue since I had that heads off almost a year ago now, knock on wood...

A couple updates
The machine shop couldnt plane the manifold, the belt sander only does cast iron apparently. So one of my teachers used to work at a machine shop for a long time. We have a bridgeport mill down at the auto shop at school and we ended up milling the manifold flat, we couldnt set it up so that is was perfectly level but it was close and everything bolted back up again so it was good enough. I put a GM gasket back on there and no problems now.
Yesterday I also got around to doing some stuff. I made the cold air/ram air intake for the the track, I read about guys gaining hp on the dyno with no filter so I figured Id take it step further. All it is is 4" pvc (I should have gotten ABS cause black looks better imo) and I had the shave the edges of the pipe going out the headlight hole because the hole for the headlight is too narrow. To connect it to the turbo I siliconed in a 4" silicone connector from ebay, I didnt know the the OD of pvc was 4.5 cause my plan was the slip this over the pipe to connect it
I also made the new tip that Ive been wanting to put on for a while, I wanted the look of the corsa tip but not for $150, and for it to fit on a 4" tail pipe. The tips are 4" gibsons that my dad never put on a truck the he sold so his loss my gain I wish I could get the to not stick out as much but They are so long and room is so limited that I dont think I can
Im gonna go up to New England dragway this friday for the last 603 Diesels night and hopefully itll be cold and the truck will run faster
Oh and speaking of exhaust does anybody have a good way to get the soot or whatever you wanna call it off paint? The very bottom part of my bed by the tip is black, like painted black, it doesnt come off when I wash the truck...

Good luck this week! You should see a pretty big benefit in these colder temps. As we have mentioned before I'd bet its IAT's pulling timing that are hurting you most. The cooler weather gives you a better starting point, but it will also make your IC much more effective.
I would look for a velocity stack to put on the end of of hat PVC and hang it outside the headlight hole. It will help channel the air into the tube a lot better than the tube itself.
9610 - Spectre , Filter Funnel 4.5 In
The exhaust tips look good!
