Not just from my contribution, but everyone who has been asked to send pics for the shirts. I don’t believe they are handing them out for free are they?
So with this paragraph, are you saying that the guy with his truck picture on the shirt should get some sort of royalty or payment for use of his truck? While I dont entirely disagree, keep in mind this is a public (free) forum for users, but there are always costs asscociated on the back end to keep it running. I know I dont get any type of payment for being a moderator. I dont know the exact costs and expenses of keeping this site running and how it compares to the revenue generated by product sales or sponsorships, but I can assure you no one is getting rich by running performancetrucks.net.

Who do you have in mind when you say smaller builds get more attention and sponsorship? What are they doing different? A truck will never be as fast a gutted out foxbody with the same setup, its pretty easy physics with that one. Not as cool or rare, but companies care about their bottom line.

My opinion is if you want to get into sponsorships I would start at the local level and work from there.

No, I don't necessarily think that the owner of someones truck on a site t-shirt should get a royalty......although it does make me wonder a bit when a seemingly regular member requests photos for such a thing.

This is just a question so don't everyone freek out: Can I make shirts that promote pt.net with members rides on them and sell them?

When I mention other member or builds getting certain attention, I wasn't referring directly to members on this site. But for example, procharger is constantly posting peoples stuff on twitter. Bear with me here cause I don't even know how to properly use twitter, but I would assume that procharger gets these pics and info from the owners, right? I'm also not just talking about procharger either. I mean, there are a ton of companies flashing peoples stuff that rep their products all over the internet and after lunch the other day it just made me question how all of this works more than anything.

I'm caught in that generation gap between old school and social media and know just enough to ask questions about how it all works and the dollars behind it. I mean there is a ton of free advertising out there and it tends make my mind wander.

getting any sort of sponsorship, help, compensation, whatever you want to call it is never easy! when i was racing late models i had a pretty solid package to offer anyone who might be remotely interested in helping support my racing and not a single person took the offer... and dont always take everyone badass sponsorships that they talk about as 100% true. i friend of mine is building a car right now, has been for about a year, and he posts all over the net about it and all about the good deals and sponsorships people give him but mostly just because hes a good guy and very appreciative of the people and companies he works with. he will say Company A sponsored him this or that when in reality all he got was a 5-10% discount or a free shirt or something. its not like theres tons of businesses out there just giving away free product to every tom dick and harry. a lot of people just want to look cool and important by saying theyre sponsored!! my $.02

Yea Matt is all over the facebook

That does make me think of something though...he basically maintained his build thread on facebook or made a facebook page. When he whored it out enough and enough people were paying attention he basically started his own brand and started selling hoodies, tshirts, etc. Not a bad way to take advantage of free (facebook) publicity.

Originally I had Moser (sponsor plug lol) drill the rotors and plug/redrill/thread the hubs on the stock stuff. Not sure if they still do it, but for what they used to charge back in the day it was the way to go for sure.

The 5-lug conversion that you are seeing in those pics is a custom 5-lug conversion drag brake kit that Madman/Insane Chassisworks (double sponsor plug lol) prototype'd and ended up making/selling 10 kits. Insane Chassisworks had to shut the doors and Madman is now working for TRE (non-sponsor plug lol) up North of Houston. I haven't talked to him in a while and as far as I know there are not anymore kits being made at this time. It's not profitable for him to have 1 kit made. I'd be more than willing to help and I'd bet if we could gather up enough money for another order of 10 he would do it. Let me know. Like I said, I can help make it happen if there is enough interest.

yup, thats exactly what hes done and has made a good chunk of change off of it all!!

im sure a lot of us could do the same thing, especially with out more exotic builds than a 5.3 swapped fox, but hes done a great job at publicizing his build and getting people interested

forums make money by getting advertisers based on the traffic and number of active hits (users) that they can target.

This is sub-forum of ls1tech which is probably the most whored out forum except for some of the import or non-car focused ones. So you can bet the person who ones/runs these forums is making money.

The shirts is yet another revenue stream, but more than likely its an investment in advertising through a different medium than the interwebz.

Example: How much is www.performancetrucks.net estimated website worth?

Now do I have a problem with that no, should they use some of the revenue to improve usability and other user friendly stuff yes, should they not allow to exclusive rights to sponsors so we can't talk or post about other products, yes. Will I be back tomorow to look at new posts and see what fast trucks are in the works, yes.

And finally they can and will probably use any information/pictures/documents etc. that are posted on here for whatever purpose the owner sees fit, I bet there is a clause somewhere when you sign up that says anything you say or post is fair game for the owner to use for anything at their own discretion (except in much more legal words)

Just to clarify ^, PT is no longer a sub forum of LS1tech and it hasnt been for some time. The databases were once the same, but are now divorced, and obviously the main forum is separate. IB, does however, own or run both boards (among many others).

Just to clear up any confusion. There is seemingly no profits from the teeshirts. The money goes to InternetBrandsInc who hosts this website, and then to the teeshirt company, TeeSpring. Ask Dewey, he's in charge of it! I do a lot of my work for fun and I simply get pleasure out of knowing that you guys with some bad *** trucks are wearing a shirt I designed.

I only requested photo's of your truck because without a doubt you are one of the most famous on the website. Dewey asked me to come up with something, and your truck came to mind. If me using your photograph, or anyones photographs in the future, offends you, feel free not to share them with me.

But in all honesty, the internet is a giant black hole of ****, and once you post here, there or anywhere, it's a free for all.

I'm on instagram and twitter ALOT and tons of companies take advantage of guys using their products and use them as free advertising. One good example is a guy called Jakob Hernig aka "aguyfromalabama" on Instagram, he's on Facebook too. He's got a 600hp duramax, and something close to 80K followers. Now obviously all 80k followers see his posts and know what parts he is using. I know he doesn't receive any profit and only has a few sponsorships, but he just enjoys sharing with the world what he does. He spends hours editing clips and pictures of his truck, and even plugs for PPEI tuning and whoever built his trans (I forget). And thousands of other pages regularly post pictures of his truck to get attention, without paying him, aka NastyTruckNation, TruckDaily, TruckHub, TruckPorn, PPEI_Tuning, etc.

On a side note, if you'd like to advertise your truck I can come up with designs for you, obviously if you want to profit from them they would have to be posted on your Facebook or Instagram, not here. In all honestly you should have an Instagram because it's on the forefront of marketing right now.
