Blown06-New Build: Cage, 4-Link, Cog Drive, + Too Much More

Weight wise I can tell you this...when I shipped the guts out of my old one, I added the weight of shipping the axles, brakes, gears and posi then weighed the housing by itself....added it up and it was around 270lbs. In comparison, I can pick this one up complete no problem by myself.
Allen, you better get bigger turbos. lol

To go back to Richards question, my 14bolt when finished to work in my 01 was like 320lbs complete

Yea, 14 bolts are a waist of time in my opinion. I mean the 10 bolts have been in the 10's easy and one I know for sure in the 9's.
Why people swap to 14 bolts I don't understand.

At the time I had 35" mud tires (120lbs each) on a 6400lb truck with 700hp, so it seemed like a good idea. Oh and completely upgraded and set up for under $2k....to answer your question. But I agree in a light street truck, there are better options...although not necessarily cheaper if you dont mind the weight penalty.

It's mostly low cost to strength ratio. Back in my teens there was a place out in Cali (Tom's Differential) and they were pushing 14bolts pretty hard (even over the then more plentiful 12bolts) because of their strength.

TBSS is in the 9.1 area with a 14bolt, faster than a 10bolt.
14bolts are stronger, so why is it a waste?
Going the 14bolt route isn't as "overdone" as a fab 9 or nine", but it does hold more than a 10bolt.
It's a direct swap and an easy way to put some trust in the rear setup.
Plus it costs under $1500 to do, from most yards.
Just asking, you say a 14bolt is a waste of time, but you were doing a 4link and wasted a bunch of money on a 10bolt right? What changed your mind?
Or was that someone else with a similar screen name? I get all you belt driven racers mixed up
I would have rather 4link'd and upgraded the internals in a 14bolt over a 10bolt.

For me, when I had the 4link originally done, it was a cost issue. Instead of throwing money at a 14 bolt I decided to wait until I had the funds for a 9". I also didn't plan of this build getting this crazy. It's my engine builders fault really. The longer he takes, the more money I make, the more time I have for upgrades. If he'd of just built me the motor I wanted in a timely fashion, I'd be on my second motor by now.
