Decided to paint the block while it was out not that you'll see much of it once its tucked back in the bay.

Well I keep hearing about the ebay head studs but I can only seemed to find them for 04 and newer. I cant find them for 03 and older 5.3 blocks.

Also I have a couple ?'s I read that the stock heads studs are good up to #15 of boost and Im sure I'll never push it that far...

So would I be ok with Arp head bolts since they claim to be 15% stronger?

The other ? I had was if I do go the head studs route dont i have to re-torque the studs every so often? My concern is having to pull all the crap off the valve covers etc. is there a kit that re locates the coil pack etc?

Also if any vender has any good deals on head studs or bolts and ls9 gasket's please pm pricing.

Thanks

I received the Ebay head studs in the mail but no instructions on torquing them down. What are you guys torquing them down to? Are you following the same steps as to torque down the stock head bolts?

Also do you use thread locker on just the bolt down in the block or do you use it on the nut to?

And my last question is what do you use to clean the head bolt holes out with?

I've read that you can grind down two sides of the the old head bolts and run that in each hole along with some brake cleaner and then blow it out. Is this a good idea?

Thanks

Also Do I need to set for Valve Lash and if so how much? I'm assuming that I don't
Only if I'm going back with solid lifters right?

Thanks

Try to do a search on how to tighten down the head studs. I recall recently reading that people tighten them down in 3 intervals, 30,60,90 ftlbs i believe. Also, whether or not thread locker is used varies from person to person

Yea I bought a couple books and been living on line and its real clear on what to do if your going back with stock bolts but nothing if your using aftermarket studs.

Im probably going to following the torque specs on using stock bolts but the the biggest thing is if I use thread locker on the nut. I'm going to use it on the bottom end of the stud going into the block but not sure if I need to use it on the nut.

Thanks

Only use thread lock on the bottom threads that thread into the block, don't put it on the nut.

I would not recommend using thread locker at all...
