Budget LS S-10 Blazer
myself and a good friend LS-Blazer are piecing together an 86' Blazer to have some fun with... the truck belongs to him, I'm just mainly helping run down parts...
Picked up an '05 5.3L on the SUPER cheap and it turned out to be in just about PERFECT shape... here's a couple pics of how it sits now after pressure washing. It was originally an Oklahoma motor so it was caked with red mud. We've still got a LONG way to go, but it should be a fun project.
The setup will be very simple and will go something like this when its all said and done.
'86 2 door S-10 Blazer
'05 5.3L LM7
223/225 .576/.588 113+3 custom grind comp cam
918 Springs
stock bottom end
mildly cleaned up heads
some spray... 100-150 shotsomewhere down the road
'03 4L80E
Transgo HD-2 kit
stock converter (for the time being)
Stock 7.5" 10 bolt rear with a mini spool...

Ill post more pics tomorrow of the motor. He painted up the valve covers, waterpump and will be doing the pan sometime tomorrow as well. Its gonna be the best looking and running 'cheap' motor you've ever seen next time I'm around the truck Ill snap a few pics of it as well. Its nice looking with the later model alum wheels and '93 grille. The paint/body is clean as well. and all the while he's got less in the motor/trans/truck/suspension than I have in my wideband and FP guage
I figured the 80E would take some work to get in there, luckily for us; the previous owner has already cut a gaping hole in the floor and trans tunnel LOL. Not only will it be stronger, its already sitting on the table
Why do you say the mini spool will suck??? This things gonna see VERY little street time, its going to be primarily a track toy...

I figured on the 7.5 not living forever, but footbraking it on the stock converter it should last a while, till he figures out something else... Maybe he'll make some posts and chime in here LOL..
There's lots of SB S-10s here locally with 7.5's in the 11's... I'm guessing some N/A 12's shouldn't be too big'a deal. And won't be too terribly hard on parts...
