The 80E is just harder to fit in and make a trans crossmember for...also since the output yoke is 32 spline I believe the stock s10 trans yoke won't slip on like it would a
60E/65E other than that and it being heavier ithey are strong trannies...I've heard a lot of complaints about the mini spools in the 7.5/7.625 rears...Go with a stock G80 or auburn/detriot unit IMO...but for $$$ wise G80/mini spool should suffice...Is the motor going to be carbed?

this is the result of a mini spool in a 7.5

find a 8.8 out of an explorer. they are easy to find and cheap, have great stock posi's and come in 3.55 3.73 and 4.10 gears. plus they are almost bolt in, just need a conversion u joint.
the wheel fitment is different of course in bolt pattern and offset, but you'll probably be getting a new set of wheels anyways.
a direct fit option is to find an 8.5 out of an s10 or blazer, but they are not an easy find, only a few came with the crappy g80, and gear selection is poor at best.

Thanks! All the cast surfaces on the heads were painted and the machined surfaces got taped. I hadn't seen one done like that so we tried it out. I think it turned out nice. We've got some new pics to post of the motor since he finished the paint. It looks really nice! Definitely different. Planning on shaving the stock intake manifold as well and
