Default CTTAndy's Suburban Work Truck

Well, if anyone was following my shortbed build you know that was cut short. Things changed and it became a project that was going to have to be pushed out of the way for a little thing called life. LOL

I needed something to work from and to replace my brown pickup. It needed to be kid friendly because I have 2 girls and it needed to be 4x4. I was primarily looking for a 93-94 454 4x4 suburban. After 500 miles of driving and looking at 8 454 trucks that were absolutely destroyed, I found new listing on craigslist 6 miles from my house. I could tell it was a work truck and that it was really clean. I decided to give a 350 half ton truck a chance.

I took my Dad with me and drove out to look at it. We decided we needed to take it home. It has 212K showing on the dash, but it has a new engine and transmission. The truck is from Florida and has absolutely NO RUST on the body, and only minor surface rust just starting on the inside of the frame. The outside of the frame and everything under the hood has been repainted. It has a new 3 inch exhaust system. The best part, I talked him down to $2200 for the truck.

Pictures from the night I bought it, in the dark

The next morning, the first time I saw it in light

A few hours later at my friends salvage yard. This was 20 minutes into the snow which left me stranded at a friends house.

Here is my new front seat

The bad with the truck when I bought it
front axle doesn't engage
front seat was modified to lean WAY back
only one speaker works
the rear heater is disconnected
rear window defroster disconnected
paint severely faded from being sand blasted in florida
bad miss in the engine and backfiring
something in the heater blower motor that rattles

Repairs so far

front seat replaced with a blue cloth 60/40 from a 99 pickup
changed the good working gauge cluster for a tach cluster with matching miles
Ran seafoam through the vacuum lines and in the gas tank
Everything but the roof repainted, all dents repaired
Ultimate TBI mods
Edelbrock Performer TBI intake
Stainless Steel Shorty headers
Magnaflow Y-pipe with convertor
Open element air filter
Titan 18's w/ Kumho Exsta P285/60R18
Smoothie front and rear bumpers with bed liner
Sprayed grille with bed liner /gloss black GMC emblem on grille
candied taillights
New front rotors and ceramic pads
Hinge pins and bushings on both front doors
tailgate gasket set

I am planning on getting the Skyjacker 2.5 inch lift kit and moving my tires over from the pickup. The pickup and suburban will be trading front bumpers once the tires are swapped over.

I will be putting the pickup back stock and selling it. The money from the pickup will be for a 94 454 vehicle to donate it's engine/trans/accesories/wiring harness.

My buddy has already done the swap on his truck and as long as he has a donor vehicle, everything will swap over.

Dropped the truck off at the body shop today. Should have a full repaint before the week is out.

I had some time to think about it the other night. I am not going to put a 454 in this nor lift it on big tires. I am going to look for an older truck to do my grunt work and use this suburban strictly for working on computers and related stuff.

Those are the only 2 things I plan to change right now though. I still plan to run some wide tires to fill out the wheel wells, but I won't be going taller then a 33. I will also be getting the windows vinyl wrapped to advertise for our business.

You should lower it. You found a donor truck with a 454 yet?

That one in AL closer to you.

If I lower it, then I wont be able to turn it around in the woods behind the house.

Back from the body shop

He wasn't able to paint the roof because the bolts for the rack appeared to be stripped. I think I am going to scuff the roof down and coat it in bed liner.

That truck looks sharp, never really seen a 94+ gmc sealed beam front end like that before
