My trans is supposed to be rebuilt, but I have reasons to question that. Just doesn't seem right to me, despite have a nice silver paint job on it. Could be that the motor is so screwed up that it messes with the trans, but I'd rather not take that chance.

Ok, BIG question.
On the newer trucks, there is a tow/haul button on the end of the shifter. I pull a trailer a lot and frequently used this on my 03 XL, so I really want to be able to use something like this in my Burb. Can I wire up a momentary switch and LED light in my dash to activate the tow mode.
I know I can just have the tune changed to run like that all the time, but I would prefer not to do that. I'd like to keep that nice shift unloaded.

I added the Silverado Tow/Haul shift in my 2000 S10 with no issues, its just held in with one bolt. All it needs is the pin ran to the computer.
Im pretty sure a momentary switch will work, an on/off wont, because the PCM pin hooked to the shifter is just a quick "ground" flash to change trans tables.

Waiting for family to show up for lunch, have some time to kill. My reading last night tells me there is a PIN-71 or something like that, that needs a momentary switched ground to activate the tow/haul mode.
I also found out, that with the same switched ground, to PIN-31 or whatever, gives me the ability to manually shift my trans. I don't want this for racing, but I could see a big advantage for towing and possibly even some of my buddies doing truck pulls. Something tells me that this might already be in use on 4x4's. Possibly connected some how to low range in the TC.
I am going to go talk to an electronic wizard friend of mine. I am hoping he can build be a little circuit to activate a LED light using the switched momentary ground. I think I could do it with a relay if I sit down and play with it.

I forgot to give 2 updates this summer. The truck now has a pretty nice Sony Cd-player in it with all aftermarket speakers I pulled from a wrecked truck that I parted out. I also finally swapped out my rearview mirror. It fell off going down the road, so I installed a mirror from a 97 Olds Aurora that has auto-dimming and compass.
