As far as the line goes.. If I were to do the hood in a base clear, I do believe that if I were to clear it, then tape a line off, use a 4-5000 grit hard sponge, or paper on a orbital buffer that it would be 1 clear coat with 2 textures.. Just would have to be careful to make sure the line is exact and true.. Or spray the complete hood in the black base.. Tape off the center of the hood(satin part) clear the areas that are going to be gloss.. Once that dries, lay a tape line slightly on the out side of the gloss clear line, then tape off the gloss part around the edge of the hood, spray the center of the hood(satin part) with a satin clear. Once it has all dried, wet sand the edge where the two clear coats have over lapped, then buff.. Should make a nice line, be all one level, no lines.. Lots of time, but would prob work..

RIB, those ghost stripes actually look pretty good, I am not even a fan of the stripe thing.. it is just subtle enough to notice, but not over whelming... Very nice... And your hood looks pretty good man, I wouldn't call it a hack brotha...
Who makes a buffable flat clear? By wetsanding and buffing a flat clear it kills its gloss holdout and will end up being more glossy than a satin and it will show your passes of the buffer...unless there is a new product out there. I have used both the PPG flat clear (junk) and the Xtreme flat clear.... Xtreme claimed you can buff their clear but it turns a to a dull shine quickly so their claim was BS.

I never said anything about buffing the satin clear.. Just wetsanding/buff the edge around where the 2 have overlapped..

I did the same to my truck about 4 weeks ago. I think the lines on the HD hood make this a little tougher, but I love the idea. Its hard to tell in this picture because its just a crappy cell phone shot, but the sides of my grille are gloss black to match the rest of the truck.

Yea absolutely. The weather here sucks today, but I'll get one as soon as I can. And to go along with your last thread, its plasti dip that I tried it with. You can see I had similar issues you did with the consistent finish, It may have come out slightly better. I really like the look of it though, I wanted to be different and this definitely did that. I was worried it would look too childish or make the truck look cheap. It is a denali after all... and I don't wanna ruin it. I am going to have that done professionally with vinyl when the time comes.
