Default Let the lq9 build begin!!!!

As many of u know, i had to pull the ls1 out b/c of a broke oil ring in cyl# 1. Well i couldnt decideif i wanted to fix it, or do a forged 370. So i decided to do neither.....im building an lq9 instead!!

Bought a 2002 block 2 weeks ago, then bought a set of lq9 rods and pistons from Josh(viciousknid). Rods and pistons in good shape, block in good shape, so i have a great start. so far ive pulled pistons off the rods, cleaned the main caps(gunky build up on them), and cleaned and polished the wrist pins. Dropped off pistons at Polydyn today. Im having the skirts coated. Already bought my ARP main studs, Katech rod bolts, and my cam. cam is the TR230/236 592/602 112+4. I was unsure if i was going to be able to use my PRC stg2.5 5.3 heads on this motor b/c they are 60cc chambers. Called my machine shop and was told he could open the chambers up for the 4" bore and get me 4cc out of them!!!! woooohoo. ill keep everyone updated...here are a few pics so far.

straight from Polydyn!!

PolyDyn RP piston skirt coating is a ceramic reinforced dry-film lubricant with a low affinity for oil. The coating protects the piston skirt from heat, friction and wear – resulting in a reduction of parasitic drag, while decreasing heat saturation into the piston skirt. RP enhances the lubricity between the skirt and the cylinder wall – reducing galling and wear of the piston assembly and increasing the engine's longevity. The benefit results in an increased rapid acceleration without damage to the piston.

Not bad Im interested to see how quiet it is. Of the top of my head a 64cc chamber on an LQ9 should put you around what 11:1? You going to run a .04 head gasket for better quench too? You and Stewart are going to have some damn close setups I have no chance when/if I ever get my **** together

looks like you have a plan! 64cc heads on a stock gasket (.053 compressed) goes to 10.9:1. mine are 63.5cc so im right at 11.0:1 compression. if you ever plan to run nitrous, a thicker head gasket (less quinch) is actually better because it will slow the burn rate a little bit. you dont need to worry about that though until you start at looking at a 200+ shot. tight quinch is better for N/A. wider quinch is better for N20. stock gasket is settling right in the middle.
