LQ4 Build on A Budget
Well I found a low mile LQ4 and snatched it up. There's nothing wrong with the 5.3 in my truck but I just want more TQ and I cant get it outta the 5.3. Soooo excuse the pics but the phone is all I got for a camera 
Got the engine on a stand and tore the heads off along with the locked up water pump and tensior bracket off
So next decided to clean the deck surface and pistons to knock off what little carbon was on there. My little helper decided to help with her "gloves"
The cross hatching looked very good as well with little wear
Next I pulled the pan and cleaned it, noticed a crack on the inside and looks as if the pan was bumped at some point so i had it welded and just snap[ped a couple of random pics while the pan was off. Looks pretty clean besideds when I had the motor upside down before was off some sludge dripped "down" by the pistons
I know the pan alighnment is "critical" but I just got it as flush as I could with the back of the block since I didn't have the bell housing to :suck" it together, I think it'll be close enough
All I got to say about this pulley is ***** YOU
I had Pat G spec a cam and another guy spec one. Pat G spec'ed this:
The other guy spec'ed a 224/228 581/588 on a 112 straight up, still not sure on what cam to go with BUT I'm not looking foir a track 6K rpm screamer. I like power under the curve and TQ and TQ and oh yea TQ!! So I know I can go bigger but with what I gave pat for specs I believe he picked a cam based on TQ but I'm leaning more towards the 224/228 but maybe a little more lift since the heads will be ported...
Pulled the cam and looked at the cam bearings... They looked fairly well as well as the stock cam:

So now I'm waiting on the heads to get back and some money on the $$$ tree to order the new cam, so I did some block cleaning and painting
Primered then painted
I also sprayed the timing cover & valave covers with some Aluminum rattle can paint, It came out ok but I'm gonna redo it as I noticed that paint I used was only good up too 200 deg
plus I need to sand em upo a little better as you can see on one of the valve covers and the front cover
I also have a NNBS/TBSS intake also, just needing a 90mm or the 87mm truck TB
Well that's where I sit now, I'll update the thread as the $$$ rolls in. I know theres a million like these and nowhere close to all these really quick turbo trucks on here but I'm having fun with it and can't wait to get it swapped and fired up the first time
If any one has any tips or lessons learned please feel free to ad them as this will be my first LS swap etc
