Appreciate the input all!

I can't see myself not going back to boost life, I spoke to a local builder here and he gave me this break down to start:
Stage 1
Part Cost Total
TSP Custom Assembly 3,097.44 $9,620.00
K1 Tech Crank Shaft
TSP Rods
Carillo Pistons
Balnced
Texas Speed works Stage 1 Cam 331.00
Full Engine Gasket Set 250.00
Main Studs 302.48
Lifter Trey's 49.40
Trunion Upgrade Kit 140.00
Timing Chain Set 150.00
Machine work 1,300.00
Labor 4,000.00
Stage 2
Head Studs 517.37 $12,350.00
Lifters 766.00
Holley Oil Pan 523.95
Head Porting 900.00

Plus running a Holley Terminator XMAX

Waiting on quote/builds from a few shops in the neighboring towns (the joys of small towns/states) Basically build the 408, save for upgraded SC and sell the side mount?

@ALL ULL C Can you link me an OEM shaft style rocker? For some reason I cannot see this in my mind.

That is exactly what I was referring to. You don't need to buy his rockers, the $309 is without and $470 with rocker arms.

Sorry if I confused you, not OEM shaft but BTR shaft with OEM rockers.

I can save you ALOT of money right now on ls1tech. https://ls1tech.com/forums/market/1975648

Tim builds some impressive engines out of Missouri and he just listed that long block.

I promise you his build quality at the very minimum matches TSP but I would go further to say surpasses.

And if you are going to run a Term Xmax you simply just change the reluctor to 58x vs 24x and call it good.

Unless you are stuck on saying you want a 40x and have to have that 4" stroke crank.

That's tempting.
Can't lie, this is my ffirst build, and im still learning everything (not even sure what the reluctor is and the difference in values).

Hence the likely needing to hire out a builder for it.

I'm certainly not capable of this myself, part of me wants to keep the original block for the sake of "originality" even though i never really plan on selling this truck.

Realistically a well built 408 should beb the goal and then add some low/mid level bboost.

Reluctor is for the crank trigger. Tells the ecu where the crank is so it knows how to time the ignition and injectors. 58x, 40x, etc is the number of teeth on the wheel. That’s a very generic description of it.

No reason to keep the original block. LS blocks are two dimes a dozen (accounting for inflation).

Personally I’d go 408 and if you get bored then go turbo or blower. I like simplicity of NA but there’s no argument that boost is fun.
