Thanks for the explanation.

Any concerns building the 408 boost, but driving it NA for a while and saving for a nicer model SC?

Alright team, lets play spend my money.

Here is the snippet of what the builder has quoted out for me for a 408. We both agree a 408 isn't "needed" for my goals (600hp min) but were in there and the cost difference is minimal to make the jump.
  • Race prep 6.0L Iron block (using my stock block)
  • Compstar Crankshaft, 4.000 stroke
  • Compstar H beam rods
  • Icon Pistons, 2618 forged, .185 wall pins -15cc dish, Target compression 9.5 / 10.0:1
  • 1.2 1.2 3.0mm performance ring set
  • H series rod and main bearings
  • HP cam bearing set
  • ARP main studs
  • Melling High volume oil pump
  • New Manley intake and exhaust valves
  • Manley Valve spring kit, with retainers and locks
  • ARP Head studs
  • Custom ground blower camshaft
  • GM Delphi LS7 lifters
  • New Lifter Trays
  • Cloyes Billet roller timing chain with guide kit
  • Yella Terra twin shaft rockers with valve cover spacer kit
  • Trend 5/16 .080 wall pushrods
  • Fel-pro gaskets
Ported heads will likely happen as well.

Then we add FI, thinking whipple 2.9?

Anything anyone sees they recommend against. Anything besides the 4L80 that i might be missing addressing?

New valves in stock heads is a waste IMO

I'd shoot for at least 10.5:1 CR

I don't think your build is wild enough for YT rockers, I'd do stock w/ trunnion bushings

I realistically need to run 91octane as not much availability is here. Maybe that affects the target CR?

I'll have to research more on the rockers, not sure the specifics here.

My compression is around 9.5 that’s to keep it safe on pump gas. You never know when you will get a bad tank of fuel daily driving. It’s just insurance you can make it up with boost.

^^^ This, zero need for new valves unless they are bad. And again, seriously stock w/bushings or the BTR shaft/OEM call it good. You go to roller tip style rockers for aggressive cam profiles, titanium valves (w/lash caps), and for very high revving valvetrain stability.

I’d highly suggest picking up a set of square port heads (LS3/L92/LSA/LS9) for the future add on (Whipple). They don’t offer a cathedral base so you’d have to run adapters.

@ALL ULL C Is right, get some square port heads and I really like that BTR shaft that he is talking about.

I would consider looking somewhere else for lifters. Those Delphis have been reproduced out the wazoo and I don't know if I would trust them anymore. Some Johnsons perhaps.

If I was going to do it again I too would switch to square ports for blower options.
