Suprisingly, the bore isn't even scarred. The block is still trashed, but I was really surprised to see a clean bore.

Guess the pistons said **** that and got out of the block before they could mess up the cylinder or head

LOL yeah. When I was putting this motor together, I had trouble getting an old piston ring out of one of the pistons. So I used a piston from another, newer engine. This is the piston that suffered the failure. All the others are just fine. To add to that, my girlfriend looked at that piston and compared to the others, she said "that one looks sketchy..." Maybe I'll let her inspect the parts for the new motor just to be sure LOL

You know all you have to do is pull the caps off the rods and slide the piston out the top, you don't have to chisel it out of there...

LOL

1.) factory 5.3 (failed 918spring, dropped valve, broke piston, destroyed block)
2.) Iron LS1 (turbo'd, sucked meth tank dry on a pull, torched piston)
3.) junkyard 5.3 (removed for 6.0)
4.) 6.0 (fresh rebuild, spun cam bearing within 5,000 miles)
5.) 383 LSx (sold to buy turbo stuff)
6.) junkyard 5.3 (lean was too mean)
7.) TBA

The list of cams I've used would be even lengthier

No, never had a 4.8. The 383 was supposed to be my last LSx adventure before I put a BBC in it, but I guess I'm just glutton for punishment lol
