If I still lived in a hot climate and drove this everyday (or if I wasn't at the end of my rope with breakage before i get to have any fun on this truck), I'd be working on an electronic solution for them rather than moving on

I think everyone will admit I pushed the STS idea pretty far beyond the "stock bolt" on I prototyped for them hehe.
X 2. I like mine too but would not recommend pushing it too far.

More pics of the 408. I ripped into the low end and am a little surprised by the lack of serious carnage.

Here's the bottom of the pan:

Here's a little chunk of metal that was on one of the main caps:

Here's the only other debris I found:

Yep... Just a little bit of shavings on a few main studs. But, you can see in the pool of oil in this piston, that there is some metal:

On to the bearings:

The thrust bearing was very loose (it fell off as I lifted out the cap).

nice pics, though it is easier to pull the cam with long bolts as the hand rather than the gear, or you could get a actual cam shaft install handle.....
The engine actually don't look that bad to me... New bearings polish the crank and run it... lol

Actually I was talking to Rex about those... I guess FM bearings are known for this, and I wasn't running a high volume pump. I'll definitely rebearing the thing with something else.

All I'm waiting on is the 427 This engine is going to another vehicle

Damn, Erik. To say you've been busy, doesn't quite cover it. Good to see you still have the red beast though.

Oh yeah, I'd have to agree with Matt of your pic taking skills.
