Default My Iron LS2 - Patriot 243s, EPS Cam, 3.5" catback, misc crap buildup

Well, I was on the fence about doing anything to my truck since the swap, but I finally got pushed over the edge... I am after a torquey bitch!!! My goal is ~380/380 or a low 12 sec pass. My truck is already pretty freaking torquey, i am just wanting MORE! The time in my sig was when i was on the stock tranny, and I was being a puss out of the hole, basically rolling into the throttle, so hopefully these upgrades should really help. Oh and before anyone suggests it, NO I have no plans, zero, nada, zilch on changing out the converter.....

Here is a run down of the parts, let me know if i am missing anything...

1. Patriot Stage II 243s 64cc, should be ~11:1 CR , i am going to pick up from a moderator for an insane deal, they only have ~1500miles on them. I am sure there are tons of better heads, but for the price i am getting these for they are definitely worth it.

2. EPS Cam 226/230 .598/.600 113+2, should be ~8.5 DCR, I picked this up brand new with push rods for 325

3. I am gonna go with ARP head bolts because they don't cost that much more and I hate doing the degreeing thing....
http://www.texas-speed.com/p-131-arp...04-blocks.aspx

4. Stock LS2 head gaskets (.054 thickness)
http://www.texas-speed.com/p-205-gm-...yer-steel.aspx

5. While I am there i will be putting in some LS2 lifter trays and LS7 lifters. Current ones have 100k on them...
http://www.texas-speed.com/p-222-gm-...ter-trays.aspx
http://www.texas-speed.com/p-309-gm-...7-lifters.aspx

6. Last but not least, I picked up some 8.1l Marine injectors, i just need to get some new orings for them. My regular 8.1L injectors are at 99% now, so i am gonna upgrade those to keep things safe.. Those with the walbro, should satisfy my fueling needs....

Now a couple of questions...

I was told using the LS7 lifters you need to get a little longer Pushrod, is that correct? The guy i bought the cam and push rods from said, Patrick G or Geoff (can't remember which one) said that for stock heads and LS7 lifters with the EPS cam he needed 7.425 pushrods... so have have 7.425 and 7.4 rods and by disposal, i am gonna try the 7.425 like was recommended, just curious if anyone had some advice...

Also, what is the difference between the LS1 and LS2 lifter trays? I have read the LS2 trays are the way to go...

The guys at TSP told me with my LS7 lifters that the preload range is so wide on them, that you can still use the recommended PRs for the standard lifters. My heads were milled .030 (243's) and I was able to still use the 7.375 PRs with them. I think they said preload range is anywhere from .020 - .080. May want to call them and ask to be sure.

There was a thread on tech the other day that one of the sponsors proved the longer pushrods with ls7 lifters to be a myth. They use the same

Good luck man

Your changing the heads anyways buy the $15 comp cams pushrod length checker and eliminate the guess work.

If 380 will get you in the low 12's i'd guess your already there with your current setup. My stock cam only lq4 put down 380 through an 80e

Sounds like a fun build that should be fun to drive!

I use 7.40 pushrods with my LS7 lifters.

LS2 trays are thicker than the LS1 trays. You'll see when you swap them out...

Sounds like a cool build..
The ls7 lifters are offered by GM as a direct replacement for all LS motors..I also used a 7.4 pushrod, after checking the length correctly...
As said the ls2 trays are thicker and more durable..I drilled the 1/2" holes in mine to allow the oil to drain faster and have had zero issues..
I made around 380 with my old 212/216 cam, I have not dyno'd my EPS cam yet but it feels like +20 more easily..And you have .3 liters more displacement and a larger cam..I think you will be more in the 410 range..Good luck!

Buddy of mine put down just shy of 400 in a 5.3 with close to the same cam with a little better heads. No reason with your extra cubes and being 2wd vs him being 4wd that you won't be well north of 400 if whoever tunes it knows what they're doing
