NV3500 to 4L80E Swap
#24
Quick update, when you do the swap you have to get a column from and auto. I bought one then just removed the bracket that hold the shift cable and welded it to my column same way it was.
ALSO i learned the hard way about having a non sponser build my trans. Good think FLT is coming to my rescue (thanks again andy)
I have seen no other quirks about anything i have done.
So you guys know...4l80e are just as heavy putting them in the first time as they are the 3rd, so i hope the 4th is the charm.

Sorry to hear your Still fighting that damn thing. I know, I was a one man installer with my 5speed to 4l80 swap and had to drop it down again to remove the pilot bearing. Good luck getting it finished up man, you deserve some return time back for your efforts!

Transmission should be here early february.
FLT lvl 3 80e, Yank 3200 billet, and now i have a 3-5 lowering kit coming, and am also looking into a remote start/ turbo saver kit.
So once the trans is in, i still have more to do!

I read what you said about being tired of shifting and can understand that being it was a truck transmission. I went a different route in my 90 with the same trans you had and installed a T56 six speed manual which is a total pleasure to drive and shifting is like going through butter and with its .50 six gear, 68mph is 1250rpm with 3:42's It took a little getting used to because of the 2:66 1st gear compared to the 4:02 in the NV but I dropped the tire size instead of changing the rear ratio and now its just right. Guess its just different strokes for different folks, anyways have fun

I'm doing some research on this swap. What is required electronically. I see you say you needed to get your BCM reprogrammed? Also, you need a column from an auto truck? Was this for anything other than the shift interlock and cluster display? I'm planning on using a floor shifter rather than a column shifter. Do you think that would make the swap any easier?

I dont know about the BCM i havent touched it. You will need the rear speed sensor and harness with a 60e engine harness, or an 80e engine harness. You only need the column if you do a column shift. Floor shifter works fine easier idk.

Finally My truck is shifting correctly.
Fast/TCI Ez-Tcu is by far one of the easiest things i have installed on my truck.
It is now shifting correct in all gears. My only complaint is even with the adjustments available i think the 2-3 and 3-4 shift are to soon but ill live with it since its finally SHIFTING.
I also added a 2-4 drop and did a few minor mods to the turbo kit installation.
SO. When doing this 1 buy an aftermarket controller i guess. 2 do the rest like the 60e to 80e way. What i had to do. OR just get a full manual valve body.
