I finally got my trans cooler from UPS today. It looks like a real nice unit. I spent the afternoon putting it in the truck so I could drive it home. I've been waiting to drive the truck after I put the A/C stuff back in because I couldn't find a place for the 40K. Soooo, here is how it turned out. It fits perfectly between the frame and bumper mounts. Only problem is the limited airflow it will get where its mounted. Sucks but I wanted to get the truck back on the road. I'll just have to keep an eye on trans temps.

Here are the mounting brackets I made for it.

The A/C blew cold as hell all the way home. It was 112 today here in vegas so it was much needed. It's sure nice having cooling regular cab. It cools down a lot faster than my 4 door car does. After a 30 min drive from work to home the trans temp was 205. I'll have to drive it more and see if its going to work out or not. After reading that trans temp, I will probably end up building some brackets to put the 40K in front of the intercooler and use this new cooler for oil. Should be more than enough to cool the oil.

I would be leery of mounting a trans cooler that close to the ground and exposed. Be extra cautious of road debris as one little nick in that cooler and it will empty your trans pretty quickly. I previously had my trans cooler low in the grill and behind the bumper when I had a little fender bender denting in my bumper. It nicked the cooler and hemorrhaged the fluid out very quickly so I had to leave it at the scene and go get the trailer to get it home.

Yea thats definitely something I thought about before mounting it there. Since it is just a tube and fin cooler, something would have to pierce the tube for it to **** anything and the tubes are pretty thick. They are close to 1/8" thick or more if I remember correctly. If something had enough force, it would rip the cooler out of the truck before piercing the tube.

I drove it back to work today and trans temps were 195* when I parked it. It just doesn't get enough airflow from that little opening. Its only getting air through about 1/3rd of the cooler so I'll probably end up getting a small fan to mount on the back side of it. 200* temps don't really scare me in this climate but it doesn't leave much room for beating on it. I could probably get a couple WOT pulls in before I would need to let it cool down.

I had the same experience mounting it down there. Behind the intercooler is around 160 or so. When I didnt have an intercooler it was 145ish

I just slapped mine right in front of the IC and nobody has told me yet its a bad thing, I know it does sacrifice some of the intercooler but lose a few horsepower or lose a trans....

Quick question for you guys. My little 105 amp alternator isn't cutting it anymore. With the A/C blowing, radio, efans, ect going, its bringing the truck down under 12v. I'm going to run a 200amp tuff stuff alternator here soon and was wondering what wires I would need to upgrade or make bigger to handle the extra current. Any insight would help.

I bought royal excellence 1/0 welding cable but haven't installed it yet. The stock AD244 alternator is beastly compared to the 105 amp unit. I barely see under 14 volts with this alt and both fans on high, light, radio etc. I'd go oem before an aftermarket alt. Some of the lower priced ones out there use cheap internals.

Also, any plans to sell those cragar soft 8s you bought?

I am about to redo all my battery cables. I had some 0 gauge cables before. All my new stuff is 2 gauge welding wire i bought off ebay. That 0gauge stuff i had before was freaking huge.

I would think that 2 gauge wire from the alternator to the battery should be plenty but I'm no expert. I guess I need to find out what 2 gauge is rated at. It should only be a 3-4 ft length.

Are the higher amps only going to effect the wire from the alt to the battery? Do I not need to worry about the other wires on the back of the alt? I know I have my fuel pump on that post but I can't remember what else is there.
