Default Project WorkTruck 03 RCSB 5.3

Hey All,

So I sold the GTO early in July so I could go to a more practical automobile. My wife and I talked about different things that would benefit the family, but I could tinker with and still be part of the community.

So we decided on a getting a truck, she wanted extended cab, but I wanted a regular cab.

I finally found a truck that wasn't rusting, and didnt have 200k miles. It is 2003 Silverado, 5.3, regular cab short bed with 100k miles. The goal for this truck is to make 601 whp, see 11's in the 1/4, but still be able to use it as a truck on 93.

The build list will hopefully go like this:
2003 Raydo
5.3 LM7
ARP Head Studs
Custom Turbo Cam - Purchased
Torque Converter
On3Performance Turbo Kit
76mm Turbo
Posi
Injectors
New Fuel Setup

The day I brought it home. It had 22's on it which rode like poop, and weren't exactly my style.

First thing I did was sell the wheels, and buy some D Window Steelies and put some Nitto 420s's all the way around.

*the pictures are pretty shitty to help see what the wheels actually look like. I will try to get it in some better lighting.

I purchased a turbo cam that should suit the truck nicely. Next I will be specking out a torque converter and buying the rear end.

I still don't know when I will start tearing into as my wife has fallen in love with the truck, and her and my son have made it their DD....for now.

Just a small update.

I am trying to get some of the ancillary projects taken care first on the truck. So first I started with a new posi diff.

I went with the RMS Performance Diff for the 10 bolt. It uses a Yukon Carrier Housing, and then Ron has his own ingredients for the internals. As I have zero experience with building a rear end, I employed Damon at Demon Motorsports to install the diff. I will tell you, he got it done in very quick time, and the new clutch pack diff makes less noise than the stock did. I would highly recommend him.

I am hoping this one holds with my power wants come next year. I figured eventually, I will have to upgrade to an entire beefier rear end. Everyone loves a beefy rear. :suspect:

I have picked up a 4l80e with a transgo hd2 shift kit.

Also picked up a Circle D 3200 Converter for the 80e

Bit the bullet on the on 3 76/75 kit, I will take more pictures when I start taking everything out of the boxes.

Now I am starting to build my fuel system. I believe I am going to go with Walbro 450, PIC Delphi 72# drop in and go injectors, e85, and an aftermarket FPR.

I'm interested in that same kit from on3, heard it's a solid system.

I am just putting the -2 inches lower ling shackles in the back. I am not going super low. Maybe in the future, but for now, I like the stockish look.

So a lot has happened with the truck.

Went with a cheap 3200 torque converter for now since I am using a stock 60e. Once the truck is fully tuned, I will start saving up for a new trans setup.

I got a great deal on an on3 performance kit with the 76mm turbo. Future goals will be to replace the turbo, but for the power goals I am looking for this season, this turbo should do just fine.

Also went with a Trickflow Shelf Cam, Pac1218 springs, and of course hardened push rods. Also did a trunion upgrade as well.

Now for pictures of the turbo install. The kit was actually really nice. Everything fit pretty much dead on. The only complaint would be the hose clamps were not the sizes we needed.

I will get videos posted up soon when it is running a little smoother after the tune. I am driving it now just around town and it is running pretty good as it sits, of course 0 boost.

Going with the 8.1 truck injectors for now. We will see what happens....

I don't think you'll be able to go much past a few psi with those small injectors.

Likely it will need 50-60lb injectors to support 450-500+ horsepower.

I figured that much. I am only shooting for about 400 wheel right now until I can afford to build a real e85 fuel system and a trans. Just taking baby steps right now.
