Not with this engine, it's at 10.4:1 static. The LQ9 that will end up in the truck will be 11+

New PB with the gear swap and cooler weather. Unfortunately the converter swap won't get done this year. I'm looking to go back on the 17th of this month and play with shift points. I thought I had them identical to when I had 4.10s in the truck. Despite my speedometer being correct, the shift points were a little bit higher than last time out... 6500-6600 1-2 vs 6100, and 6300-6400 2-3 vs 6100. I'd like to see if it's happy where it is, or will go faster with lower shift points.

I had planned to do heads and cam on this shortblock, but I'm leaning towards skipping that and just putting my "good engine" together and getting it in the truck instead. I guess I'll see what the new year brings.

Ah, here's your thread. There was almost no info about that Banks cold air intake, other than your video.

I was just researching for a closed intake to upgrade to when I go supercharged. Banks is sure proud of there kit, but it does look nice. I really only need the box and a filter, the intake piping will have to be custom to the blower, and trying not to pay 400 for a box and filter lol.

@silentbravo Why change from factory? Why not just do the free mod to the box.

I think the factory filter is more restrictive than the cone style filters, less surface area to get air through.

If you watch the video @Bluecollar Hotrods made with the Banks intake, it was better, even with his factory box chopped all up. So the difference was probably in the shape of the outlet from the CAI and the filter, more than the port holes from the box itself.

ah gotcha that is interesting.

Wonder if a box like that would be too restrictive for a turbo set up

I asked my wife to get me a banks intake for Christmas. Hopefully it will help cool off my 408 some, I watch my IAT constantly on my cts3 so I will have some more data on it.

I have since added a scoop to it and sealed off the fender opening. That helped lower the IATs even more. Banks sells one, but I wasn't sure it would fit. I ended up buying one from Volant and making an adapter to connect it to the Banks air box. I got my Banks system on a sale they were running at the time, but it still wasn't cheap. I wonder if Banks sells the box separately as a replacement part?

There are still a few more things I plan to try to further insulate the box from engine bay heat. Every time I am able to drop the IATs, it goes faster. I'm sure the gains would be even more on something with boost.

I sent a text last night to Banks about buying parts separate and they replied to call in and could do that. Then I went and checked Amazon again, the last kit that fit my truck was still there, and price reduced even further... $281 so I bit. It was down to $349 like a day or 2 ago when I looked at it. The last one in stock, I guess it was just going down and down until someone snagged it haha.

I doubt the would sell the box and filter for much less than $300, since it's just the tube parts that probably aren't worth that much in the kit.

Now I need to buy a dry filter, because this kit came with the oiled type which I don't want.

Nice score! I got my LSXRT intake on a deal like that. It was $983, had it saved to cart. "Wish list" I got an alert that it was reduced over $250, then Amazon offered me a credit card with $100 towards my first purchase. Needless to say I jumped on it and have it in my parts stash.
