I use dielectric grease on my connections when I bolt the terminals down to the battery.

Yeah I made the small wire realization shortly after that post, for some reason I wasn't understanding the listings on RA.

@silentbravo I prefer the boot just because these batteries are screw in rather than posts. If this was a post battery then yeah I'd get a military terminal and be done with it.

Dorman 60300 is the boot part number and Dorman 60307 is the screw. I'll pick those up at O'Reilly over the weekend. Also an eraser wheel hopefully debadge this truck too

So my driver battery is date coded 5/20 and passenger is 9/19. Both of them with key off engine off test 12.5V. If you open the doors but don't turn the key all the lighting and stuff is normal no flickering and what not. You turn the key on engine off and the volt gauge will be at like 10V maybe go up to 12V and all hell breaks loose with the flickering lights. You turn the truck on and give it a minute or so and the flickering goes away and volt gauge is up to 14-14.5V.
I know the volt gauge isn't the most accurate and I will go back with my volt meter and test it as well. Just weird

All my lights where flickering recently to, I thought it may be voltage regulator. Then a week later truck wont start, battery was dead, replaced the battery with one out of the Chevelle and now no problem, no more flickering lights. Old battery is holding a charge still has 12.4 volts maybe was a bad connection on a battery cable. Hope yours is that easy a fix.

The only way to tell for sure on a battery is to load test the battery. I have seen them measure 12 volts on the surface and fail a load test.

You could have corrosion under the terminal at the battery connections.

Also check the core support ground connection. Make sure its not rusty or corroded there. If it is, clean it.

You can have an Internal short within the battery. It looks good and holds a charge but when you try to put a load the battery fails and basicaly dies. it will take a charge again and look good on the surface but again as soon as you put a load it dies.

I have seen this happen before.

He could also just wait until it gets colder to see if it gets harder to start.

That takes 0% effort so probably the way he'd prefer to go.
