Actually the lift pump is a good idea for peace of mind and reliability, even if you did nothing else.

@silentbravo Lift pump is in the plans just giving you a hard time lol

Honestly a built trans is as well if I can ever get to it. They really aren’t all that much…

checks... mine's supposedly more than that at the wheels & has been a fantastic daily (plus the noises it makes are fun)!
also just averaged 17+mpg (hand calc) over 3500mi in the last 2 weeks pulling a trailer that ranged from 1800-5500lb.

a good clutch on a stock ZF6 would've been cheaper & stronger... just sayin'

@_zebra I’m not a good manual driver lol

I assume lack of practice is why.

So when is this ZF6 swap start? 😊

Just kidding. So the Allison 1000 can't handle a lot more torque than stock? I thought they were very robust. I've got one sitting in my backyard that came mated to an 8.1 for pretty cheap. I really need to find a use for it or something.

They can handle some power over stock from the factory but need to be built to withstand any real power. It isn’t too expensive to build them either although I guess neither is a 4L80 really

What would you trade for it? Could build it as a secondary and swap it out over the weekend lol

I actually looked at the rebuild kits for those Allison and they are very spendy. Like $3k+ w/ torque converter. I was contemplating tearing it down just see what it looks like. I've thought of buying a truck with Allison, I don't own one. I bought it from a guy that does LS swaps. You know they say everything works, but you never know. Mine is a 2wd, 5 speed. 2004 IIRC. I think you have the 6 speed, right?

EDit: I thought in my mind the Allison was the best automatic transmission compared to the other manufacturers of HD's of that generation? But maybe I'm wrong. I don't believe neither the Dodge 48RE or Ford's 5R100(?) were as strong as the Allison, in stock form. Aftermarket may be different.

The 4L80e seems like it has actually become a common swap option for the earlier Cummins guys, like maybe late 90s trucks? I don't really know what they do to them or how they hold up long term. I suppose those earlier engines put out a more modest amount of torque compared to the later diesels.

You need to a 6 speed.... not the earlier 5 speed.

A ZF6 swap isn't much cheaper... The last complete swap I saw was $3500... Then you need a decent Clutch kit, So what another $800-$1000...

Allison seems to be the best stock trans. Drag duramaxes I have seen using 4L80s as well too.
