Default "Surge" tank, disrespectful comments welcomed

This tank feeds my big pump (https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=449284) from the 3/4" bung you see on the bottom. This tank is kept full by the return flow from the engine. The 3/8" fitting on the right has a standpipe inside the tank, the spot welds hold a strap that secures the top of the pipe. The one on the left is just open to the tank. Fuel returning from the engine enters the left fitting, and the tank fills to the top of the standpipe. It overflows the standpipe when the tank is 7/8 or so full, and then comes out the right fitting and goes to the main (stock) tank.

On the other end of the tank is a 3/4" fitting at the top, for venting. When installed, it has a couple of pipe elbows and a 3/4" check valve with a K&N filter. This lets air into the tank when the pump is draining it.

It is mounted with straps made by cutting and extending stainless T-bolt hose clamps.

I welded nuts to the straps for mounting.

Here are the bolt heads showing where it is mounted.

This pic is from underneath the fender.

Feeding the pump (which only comes on with a loss of vacuum) from the bottom rear of the tank will prevent it from sucking air. The tank probably holds about three gallons, thats a lot of WOT time.

Nice work, thinking outside the box. I always admire projects like this. Is this the only way you could figure to supply ample fuel without cutting up your fuel bucket for a bigger in tank pump?

That, and it's what I came up with to have a pump like this that runs intermittently.

It looks a like a over grown flask with multiple taps.

Way to think outside the box Mike.

Thanks everyone, but I can't believe that no one got the resemblance, it's so obvious to me:
