4.8 vs Ram Rt
#21
Actually this is my first Dodge. I'm actually a born and raised Chevy. But actually every truck out there has pros and cons. Ford would have my sale if I wanted a 4wd. He might have 4.56 but the carrier has to be modified because you just cannot install 4.56 gears in a 4th gen. Odk what RT you've ran but most run 14.10-20 and in cooler weather and traction they run 13.80-13.90's. idk how you can say that's "slow for a stock 4750lb 2wd truck. Tires and traction are killers

I am getting very similar performance out of my 4.7 Dakota that weighs in at 4,500 lbs raceweight in street trim.

Thats more than my Titan or Dakota have stall speed wise. I built a 350 chevy that made right at 400 hp at the crankshaft and pushed 5,300 lbs to a 14.1 @ 99 despite 3.08 gears and 2,000 rpm stall torque converter.
I know about all the torque management, SCT did not let you touch it and my 03 Dakota has no TCM tuning available. The 06 Ram had stall torque and brake torque management still in place. The Dakota has stock torque management. I run Superchips/PSC1 on it and it flies with stock stall and 3.55s.

If you are ever interested in a fun race down in Dallas/Fort Worth lets meet up sometime at Texas Raceway in Kennedale, Northstar Dragway north of Denton or Dallas Dragway in Crandell. Not sure exactly what you would run but you look like you would be a fun race in my Titan.
Those RT Rams are pretty slow in stock form but seem to respond ok to mods. I usually kill them pretty easily in my 2012 Nissan Titan. It runs 14.20s @ 95-96 mph in normal 2,000-2,400 DA. It ran a 13.98 @ 96.20 in 166 DA running into a light headwind a couple of weekends ago at Dallas Dragway. Pretty quick for a truck that comes from the factory with a 317 HP rating, weighs 5,350 lbs, rolls on 33" tall 20s, has an open differential with only an intake, high flow secondary cats, catback exhaust, and a Hypertech tuner. I will be adding long tube headers with equal length 1.75" primaries and 2.5" merge collectors and a single 3.5" exhaust system with a hooker aerochamber muffler soon. Also in the works is a TruTrac differential. Also plan to jump over to a set of Enkei ST6 18x8.5" wheels for the track that combined with a Nitto 555R drag radial in 305/45R18 size will be over 25 lbs lighter than my Nismo 20x9.5"/Goodyear RSA 275/60R20 wheel combination. I'll run an even narrower front tire of the same height that will weigh around the same weight. 100+ lbs of rotating mass being removed will certainly help. Also plan to toss on a set of drop springs to do a 2/3 drop.

The tan truck has headers, trutrac and Uprev custom tuning as well as an entire mandrel bent 2.5 to single 3" exhaust system and makes 300 RWHP/396RWTQ on a Mustang dyno. Mine was 296/377 in a 105*F shop on July 4th on a Mustang dyno without headers or the exhaust.
