Default 5.3 vs 350

first off, haven't been on the site in a while due to basic training and lack of internet in ait... can't find dyno/bench racing? or was it on the ls1 side?

anyway, here's the info.

i have a 2000 ecsb 4x4 5.3l:
intake
exhaust
headers
wheatley tune
e-fans
3000 yank converter

my buddy has 1982 scsb 2 wheel drive auto 350:
dual plane intake manifold
600 cfm carb
headers
e-fans
e-water pump
comp thumpr cam- 227/241 .479/.465 107 lsa

we'll race on christmas exodus just before new years. i was sure i'd take him untill he ordered the cam. how do you guys think i'll fare? i know i'll take him off the line, but how about from a 30 roll, a 40 roll, and at higher speeds?

thanks in advance for any help

He has no matching converter for the cam, but he does weigh less then you too. You'll take him from a dig for sure being a 4x4 from a roll might be a little tough.

Even with that cam, its a 82' 350. That cam wont breathe in that thing.

yeah very true he's got shitty heads. Now if it was a vortec headed 350 it would be different.

If his **** runs right he should kill you. Your talking a 1000+LB weight difference. If he is out of tune, and doesn't get any traction you might have a good chance.

I know that a mild ported vortec headed, 10:1, 225@.050'' 350~355 will run mid to low 12's in a truck like that. Up at your altitude it will be close to a second slower.

well, i was hoping i was giving him too much credit, but looks like you guys agree so far with what i thought.

who do you figure would win in the 1/4 mile? it won't be a track race, just measure out a 1/4 mile and go for it. that's the race we're be betting on, the rolls are just for fun. oh, and i don't know how much this will matter, but his engine will be a fresh rebuild. like, we'll rebuild it and race the next day sort of thing. don't know if the rings need breakin time to seal properly?

also, just for *****, who do you figure would dyno higher?

thanks for the help guys

i personally had a 81 stepside with a little bit better built motor than what your friend has. I could never get the truck to hook on street tires and 3.73s but from about 30 or 40 rolls Id kill some decent built camaros and mustangs around here. you didnt say what gears your friend has in his truck im assuming 3.08, which is what most came with. youll beat him out and through the 60ft. he'll probably start coming back a little before the 1/8th. good luck on the race and let us know how it goes down
