Default Mod TDI Jetta tried to race me today!

WTF
I've never heard of these cars as a performance vehicle.

Anyway, we were both next to each other in a pair of turn lanes.

As we get around the turn, I notice that he's gettin on it, and it's smokin like a chipped Dmax!
I floor it and pull ahead pretty easily, then he has to pull behind me because of traffic.
Then he tries to come up around me ,and I wait until he's next to me and floor it and put him about a length behind in about 5 seconds. then I had to turn off to go back to work.

Funny ****

Only race I've had for a while

Those are like 115HP/155TQ.....but if you swap injectors they can get some power.

I guess with diesels you really don't have to tune - your tune is more fuel = more power, so all you have to do is figure out how to slap some more in there.

I was looking at used TDI Golfs as a daily beater on days I didn't need my truck but, maybe I should be looking at them for performance reasons now.

That is the bad part, while I was looking at cars online I started wondering since it was diesel what type of performance stuff was available.

I'm having a hard time trying to find anything I won't throw some money into for some reason, I also have a perfectly good stock 5.3 that's sitting in my garage so I'm gonna wanna stick it in my beater eventually!!

Jetta with 5.3

Do it man!

My coworker told me that the TDIs can get around +40hp from a chip and injectors.
Still sounds pretty weak.

Yeah, you can mod TDI dubs to run about as well as a stock turbo 4 gasser. Getting them much faster is possible, but takes a little more in depth modding from what I've read. There are some really fast ones out there, but they are few and far between.

Even modded they still get in the 40-50mpg range. Unbelieveable. I've seriously considered picking up a Jetta TDI wagon and making a GLI clone out of it w/ the BBs wheels and kit. I have a soft spot for MK4 cars ever since my buddy had his chipped 337. What a fun car!!

Not true. You can buy or import into CA a used TDI with 6,000 miles or more on the odometer and register it, no problem. You just can't buy a new one here.
