I have Escalade wheels on my Silverado and 275/60R17 Goodyear Eagle II's. They're the same height as the 255/70R16's that came on the truck. The Eagle's are Ok, but were a little noisey driving, that's the first thing I noticed. The do have better traction than the stock tires but they're not great.

I have 275/55-17 Continentals on Escalade wheels. They work great and give me a little more gear ration for better E.T.'s. Check out this link, its great for comparing tire sizes to come up with the overall height you are looking for. The tires I run are the same one's that come factory on Mercedes ML430 SUV's. They ride and handle great, and so far appear to be holding up great also. They are called Continental 4x4 Contacts, but they have a highway tread so I don't know where the "4x4" comes in??? Anyway, the tirerack (www.tirerack.com) usually runs them on special for like $80 each or so. Check it out!

If I went from my 275/60R17's to your size of 275/55R17's, my 3.73's would effectively go to 3.88's because of the little shorter tire. Hmm, may have to think about this next tire change.

I've ran General Grabber 275x55x17 and BFG Comp T/A 275x60x17 and both wore down within 20,000 to 30,000 miles. I am running Kumho Ecsta(sp) 275x60x17 and love them. They are a directional tire, but they seem to be wearing pretty good, (15,000 so far) and handle 100 times better than the others. They also kick *** in the rain. I'm going with these tires again when they wear out. I got them from discount for $108/tire. Very good price for a Z rated tire.

I have Michelin Pilot LTX 255/65R-17 on Esclade wheels for my 03 2WD silverado. They are nearly identical in dia. to the stock 255/70R-16 that came on the truck. They are supposed to be high mileage tires but I only have about 2000 miles so far. They run very smooth and quiet on the highway.

I have a set of Denali rims with Toyo Proxes S/T's in a 285/60/17 They are much wider then the stock Denali tires and they hook up beter. They are some of the best all around tires Ive ever had and I will be buying another set. I love the wide look of the tires.

I have the Nitto NT 450's. 255/50's in the front and 275/50's in the rear. Not real sure on how well they wear, since I only use them in the warmer months!
