I'm pretty sure if the plastic is textured in the lens the LEDs will actually look dimmer. I had smoked tails on my 2G Eclipse and after a ticket I put some SMD lights in there and was very, VERY disappointed.

hids wouldn't be good for running your brake lights either. on/off cycles shorten the life of these bulbs.

Not tinted but I'm a big fan of the 7W Platinum LED bulbs from VLED:

No question they're pricey. Just throwing out suggestions cause not all LED bulbs are created equal; some are very bright and others rather dim. Ones from VLED have always impressed me.

I got some red smd led bulbs off egay, they had like 10 or more lights per light, they sucked. I took them out within a week as my stock bulbs were much brighter. And yes I have tinted tails. If you are going to go led used 1w or more less otherwise it would be a waste of money

what are you guys with smoked tails running, stockers or leds?
just going to tell you dont waste money on these, I did, they came in today, and I just tried them, the stock bulbs are actually brighter, my taillights are about as dark as yours, if not darker (3 coats of night shades and 3 coats of clear) ...maybed 4 coats of night shades, I cant remember lol , theyre dark, but stock like I said shine brighter
