Default Black wheel ?s

I have a set of 22 inch chrome wheels my wife wants to be black. Should I leave the lip chrome or black the whole wheels? Also how are you guys getting yours done powder coating or painting? If I powder coat them will it hurt them from the heat they have to use to powder coat? Also If I do them in all black will it not chip off when I get new tires put on them? Thanks for any help this is going on a 2000 tahoe. the wheels are the panther juice

I am not sure what would be involved to strip a chrome wheel to prep it. Powdercoat is pretty tough, you shouldn't have problems getting tires on and off the wheels without scratching the finish. The wheels can loose whatever heat treat they had if the shop leaves them in the oven too long.

I too would leave the lip chrome, but this will require some diligence on behalf of the person doing the stripping of the center. There's a reason most 'two-tone' wheels out there have a polished lip...it's awfully hard to have a durable plating against that seam.

I've seen this done, with durable results, so it's certainly possible....but it's not particularly cheap. I think you'd want to ask yourself if it's simply more convenient to get another set of wheels that are already finished. Good luck...
