Question Caliper Paint....

Does anybody have theire calipers painted? I think I remember something about powder coating, but is this stuff any good for around $40.00? I guess it all depends on which rims one has to get any visual benefit from it too. Description follows. Thanks agains gents.

P.S. They also offer engine paints to those who may be interested.

Red Brake Caliper Paint System Set

Gloss Finish Suitable for Race Cars
Complete D-I-Y Set
Seals and Protects Calipers
Best Heat Resistance
Most complete set
The exclusive G2 Brake Caliper PaintSystem Set adds a high-gloss color "touch" to your cars appearance, helping alloy wheels to better stand out, while protecting the calipers from harmful and possibly dangerous oils and chemicals

Michael Young writer for NissanPerformanceMag.com had this to say about the G2 system

“The G2 Manufacturing paint is heat resistant up to 932 degrees, which is several hundred degrees higher than the Folia Tec brand paint. So if your running track events, you can rest assured this paint won't start bubbling and running into your brake pads. Another great addition to this paint is that it seals and protects against corrosion. We've also found that brake dust and dirt will not adhere to the caliper surface since adding the paint….When G2 informed us that the entire procedure was an easy do-it-yourself brush on application, we were a little apprehensive, but once we started the painting process we were sold. The paint brushed on smooth and easy, it was almost unbelievable, no brush marks what so ever”

Available in Styling Red, Styling Yellow, Styling Black, Styling Blue, Styling Purple, Styling Silver, Styling Green and Styling White.

Sufficient for 4 Calipers or 2 Brake Drums

That G2 kit looked insteresting but I'm not sure how it looks or holds up. I would say take it to a competant powder coater. They have high temp coatings that can withstand 1500 degrees. Also don't get sucked into the myth that the finish will be rough. Powder coating has come a long way and they can do some really nice gloss finishing now and in any custom color of your choosing, although I see that the G2 kit covers a nice variety of colors. I'm having my calipers powder coated this winter. Not sure what color yet though.

I just used Plasti-kote engine enamel, it has only been on there for 2-3 months and no problems. It is only rated at 500 degrees. So we will see what happens. I used their primer, enamel and clear coat. That is one of the most time consuming project I care never to do again!

Slow, let us know how that turns out. How long do the instructions say it takes to dry/cure?

Powder Coating would be nice, but there's not much 'round here automotive wise. I'm sure I could find someplace up in Virgina Beach, VA. About how much for powder coating?

Did you know you can do it yourself?

i'll get the can out of the shop tomorrow obx and let you know....i'm like you, i would have mine coated for that bad *** look and finish but there's not a lot around here, and i don't have the time to pull them off the truck, take them somewhere and leave them to get it done. i gotta drive this beast everyday.especially being winter and i'm not sure if the heater in my daily beater is gonna work anymore or not.
