I painted mine up a few months ago with satin balck krylon fusion plastic paint and its held up great. All I did was scuff it and tape off the chrome surrounding.

Yes the gm is a clear plastic you will never sand the red off...you just need to scuff it up so the paint sticks. I wanted the chrome lining to so thats why i took mine off but a better option would be to tape off everything except the red letters.....it will take longer but be worth it.

You can buy scuff pads at any autoparts store....they are red. They do not peal off easily...i prob drive in some of the worst conditions of most people on here with getting hit by rocks/mud etc etc i get a couple nice dings in my paint and front end everyday and mine is still perfect....can go right up to it with a pressure washer and it is fine also. Just apply allot of good coats followed by 3 or 4 coats of clear.
