For 40 bucks, heck yeah, go for it! It's behind the license plate area, so you wouldn't even see it anyway even if you did a bad job. Plus it's not a structural/stressed area either.

As for repairing it, there are several "how to's" online if you search. Pay particular attension to boating sites as those guys work with glass all of the time. The short version will be: Grind away all of the cracked area and leave a gap of 1/16th" or so, lay a patch across the back side made with fiberglass cloth and resin, then fill the gap on the front side with strand and more resin, then skim coat it with fiberglass short-strand jelly. Sand, primer, paint. Of course there will be a lot of sanding in there too...

ss has pretty much nailed it. It doesnt look like a hard fix. dont be afraid to try it you cant reall jack it up on fiberglass. if its not right it can be easily redone or fixed. good luck w/ it. also when working w/ the resin and glass wear some gloves beacuse that is some sticky sticky stuff and some people react bad to fiberglass so keep that in mind when grinding it out and all that.
