I use simple green and a wash mitt, then use a petroleum based tire dressing sold through a local detail shop. After a few weeks when dirt starts to accumulate just spray everything down with the hose and it will look like brand new again. The petroleum based tire dressing will hold up to quiet a few rinsing before it's washed away.

the easiest way is a couple cans of carb/brake cleaner, a pressure washer with a water heater (some coin washes have it around here) and some cheap non-gloss tire foam. my process is:

cleaner

brush anything you can reach (usually just the fender wells and fuse box and engine covers

cleaner

drink 2 or 3 beers while it soaks. maybe re-apply some cleaner depending on how filthy it is.

pressure wash

start engine and let it warm up and blow as much water out with an air compressor as possible.

SOAK THE BAY with the cheap foam tire stuff.

stand back and admire while drinking a beer
my bay has recently been through a head swap and ls6 intake swap so it does not look like this anymore someday it will be cleaned again but as its been the truck hasnt really been washed in over 8 months. i just keep the bugs and bird poop off.
