Default LED Bulb Color

I tinted my tail lights and 3rd brake light and would like to put some brighter LED bulbs in them. On superbrightleds' site, it says that the bulb color must be the same as the lens color; ie a red LED bulb must go behind the red brake light lens. Anyone know why this is?

I would think a white bulb behind a red lense would be pink. Amber bulb would probably still be red. Its all about light wave lengths, scientific stuff. Just follow their recomendations.

Oh, I was just thinking that the normal tail light bulbs are clear, but I guess when they are on they have a tint of yellow instead of pure white.

I had some leds in my tail lights.. and they sucked, the regular bulb was brighter, i ran them for like 2 days.
Heres the ones i had> eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I had the red ones.

Yeah I second WhiteChevy3. I think LEDs are best for the smaller lights like 3rd brake lights and markers.

I've seen those, they are damn bright. But I can't justify spending that much on a pair of bulbs.

Are there any brighter incandescent bulbs out there? I have 3157's in there now.

If your gonna go with LED tail lights i would just buy a whole assembly that are all LED.. Most LED's in stock housing dont look too good in my opinion.. I bought my taillights for $215 and they are ALL LED, they are really bright and look good.

I changed my tailights and had a clear lens. Amber will not work. You have to have red. If you get on ebay, You can get nice red L.E.D. Bulbs for cheap. I have them in my 04 silverado now. they are an 1157 bulb, so i had to get a different socket and wire it all. Its not bad for the looks of them, they are real nice.
