Default Need advice on trading truck for paintjob

Guys, I have a 2001 silvy that I've done a lot to, and I need something to set me apart because I want to start goin to car shows. just about everything I can do has been done exterior wise. I am tired of the lil rich 17 yr olds in my town and have decided that I'm goin to start on the performance, which is why I have like 7 threads on here lol (sorry) about cams, headers, temp gauges, vette servos.....you get the idea. I've ordered the Y-pipe and 3" cutout so far, as well as vette servo......all the rest will keep coming in as I make up my mind on which route to go. As of now, none of those lil rich snobs have any idea how to do performance stuff, and I'm taking advantage of that. Hell, several of their trucks are V6's and manual doors lol, just with 10K worth of exterior look good parts.

With that said, I have a second truck, one I bought for DD. Its a 1985 silverado LWB, 3/4 ton, camper special, T400 tranny, 350 (I'm rebuilding it). had spun bearing. A/c runs hard and cold, immaculate interior. dual tanks....it was a cali truck so no real rust.

the neighbor is a painter at a local shop, but hes not the one that does my work. Today he brought home a 98 GT mustang for hgis 16 yr old daughter that he totally repainted a two tone, it looks SWEET for a ford lol. Also has custom pinstripin on it with her name in it lol. So we get to talkin and he says "Man I want that red truck (85), and I said, no thats gonna be my daily.....he says, I'll give you whatever paintjob you want, just give me that truck.

He seems serious, he wouldnt stop talkin about it. Hes suggesting a dark metallic grey, about even with the middle of the door handles, (he said anything less wouldnt look custom, have to paint half the door handle lol) with like maybe a green small seperating line, or pearl, or whatever I want. He said you name it, we'll do it.

I'm torn...I mean I'd LOVE a paintjob, and from seeing the work he does it would be nice, said he wouldnt let me down....so....Would you trade this truck for a custom paintjob? he said he'd buy the parts to put the motor back together if I did it for him......I mean, that truck is in really good shape, be hard to find another one, but, at the same time it'd save me money on rebuilding it, paying ins on it etc....

Heres the trucks....please comment and tell me what you think- we are talking about a $3500-$4000 dollar paint job versus a truck that cost me $800

Keep that paint, truck looks good. Spend 4k on a charger like a TVS1900 or MP112 and watch the punks cry. Thats what i would do.

$800 truck + hours to rebuild engine = blank check for full professional paint job

sounds like a win to me. these trucks are great DDs (i understand not wanting to DD new custom paint, but you could find another beater truck)

Honestly if the guy is that good, you are sold already on his work, I would have the paint done. Them old body gm's are not hard to come by. Just like stated these trucks are fine for daily, even if they are more on the wild side.. I am daily driving, blown 6.0, cam, 3200 verter, 410's and plenty of people are daily driving more radical setups then me by far.. I say go for the paint..
