IMHO the engine should not be covered. Take the covers off and get some parts PC or painted and clean everthing else up and it will look really nice.

I'm going to keep the ridges in the middle piece on. That looks a little too much to deal with.

No one has mentioned a color. A friend mentioned to me to have the paint match the pattern on the truck, blue on the botton, burnt orange in the middle, and white on the top which I believe would look sick, but very costly.
looks like he just bought the smooth center piece..that color scheme souds like it would look good to me! when i do mine im just gonna do it all white but im gonna tape off the vortec and the swirl things around it to kinda accent it a lil bit....

Well like I said, I'm not the one to prep and paint. I used a grinding wheel and I got a little over zealous. Just too damn excited that I was making a little progress on my own and I made a little hole. Nevertheless, I know that I have great body and paint guy, the same that took care of the Chariot when it was hit last summer. So the trip I shall make sometime this week.

I do have a question about painting the fan shroud. The plastic is not as thick as the engine covers, and I'd like to know if that's really worth painting. It being a thinner plastic, and being more flexible the paint would probably crack, correct? Input is appreciated.

Ah.. so now I don't feel so bad about making a hole. Bondo is something that I don't have around the garage. And maybe I bit into something I couldn't completely chew, but I tried.

The fan shroud.. do you find yourself taking the shroud off when you worked under the hood, or did you just cover it with something to protect the paint.

Lisa, I haven't read this whole thread. I'll go back thru it later in greater detail. My best advice from what I scanned is...while u might like how "sick" the white would look, it'd be a bear to keep clean I'd think. Unless u stay up on it. I was told to never but a white convertible top, they look great new, but eventually dirt overwhelms & it never looks the same. Not the same but u get the idea.

IMO, I'd try to get rid of the Vortec or the 6000, or both. I like a cleaner look.
The central part could be blue, & 2 sides could tie in such a way they resemble a pair of longhorns. You're from Tejas, right?

When sanding, it's plastic. Therefore, the lil plastic fibers (think Crazy Static Cling) stand up when u sand. I'd wet sand plastic before I'd dry sand for that reason. Wet sanding is a different type of messy, but it's what I'd do here.
