Newbie @ paint/scratch repairs
Guys,
When it comes to things mechanical I'll try anything. When it comes to paint and body I usually shy away and take it to the pro's.
I was bored today and decided to give a scratch repair a try. Armed with touch up paint, porter cable orbital, 2000 grit sand paper and some 3M scratch compound.
Here is what I started with. Thanks to wiper blade and the cowl hood up.
Sanded and built up the paint with the touchup paint brush. After this shot several more minutes spent with 2000 grit wet sanding.
Finished. Not invisible but much better. The hood is a shade or two lighter than it should be. It was painted at a local body shop. The touch up paint appears to be spot on the factory color.

Ouch man, that sucks! The exactly same happened to me and my SRT8 jeep. I had a 2 inch nick on the bumper and I couldn't get the damn metallic paint to match. Eventually I just put the front license plate bracket over it and forgot that there was ever a problem.
