Default over head console/gauge mounting questions

First. Has anyone ever used an overhead gauge pod to mount their gauges? I've been searching and haven't found anything. Autometer makes a dual and triple mount that goes just above the rear view mirror. I wanted to know how they are secured.

Also thinking about mounting them in an overhead console, which leads to my second question...

Does anyone have a write up on installing an overhead console in a truck that didn't come with one? I like the look of putting them in a factory console but want to make sure one will work in a truck not equiped with one.

Check socaldiesel.com. I've got my wideband and boost mounted in one of their pods.

Looks good. I did see the socal mounts and they look nice. Would probable end up making my own to fit in there. Anyone installed an overhead console in a truck than didn't come with one?

It shouldnt be too hard, theres only one screw and I think like two little prongs that hold the thing in place.

My 2000 ECSB didn't come with one but I managed to pick up one of the longer overhead console's from a junkyard. I just mocked it up to where it goes to get my reference points on where to cut through the headliner. The rear just slides into a recess and the front part bolts in. I tapped into the postive wire from the dome light and ran it above the headliner to the positive wire on the maplights and I grounded out the negative up by the front mounting points. My console is blank up front where I believe the rear HVAC controls typically go. Regular cab trucks may not have the recesses for the console though.

I used the SoCal diesel panel, it's a nice piece but it comes with no hardware. I had to make a couple of brackets and get some 1/4-20 bolts, no big deal but you would figure for $125 they would include $2.00 worth of mounting hardware.

Anyone else with an overhead gauge pod not in the overhead console?
