Default painting over original paint?

i've got a question. I'm about to paint my truck an 02 silverado and the painter gave me an option that he can paint over the original paint since he says is still good and I'm staying in the same color family which is similar color. I'm going from pewter to silver ice metallic. What do you guys think? Is this a good option or should I grind it to bare metal? Anybody has done this before? Thanks in advance.

No keep the paint on the truck. The factory primer, is the best, as it is the orig.. Just scuff the truck down, blast it with primer, then sealer then paint.( that is after the prep/ finishing work is done after each) Any good painter will tell you this.. Taking it to bare metal is not the way to do it...
