Default Painting Tips Needed

Whats up. Ive been thinkng about painting my engine cover. I have painted many things before and im almost a pro at not getting the paint to run. I do need some of yalls advice though.

-What is the best way to smooth the plastic? sandpaper, filler primer, etc
-Is wetsanding the paint necessary? If so, what is the best procedure
-What is the best rattle-can clear coat? Ive used duplicolor before and it sucks

Any input would be appreciated. thanks

Thanks 02Blue for the link. What brand of rattle-can paint is the best?

I used a d/a, and a lil hand sanding when I did my dash bezal, turned out fine. Just don't get too crazy with the d/a. I also used dupli.. for the clear. Just shake the hell out of the can, I also heat the can up a bit, have never had a problem. Good Luck
