Default Prep Gel Coat for Paint?

Need some advice on painting & prepping gelcoat. Can u apply Bondo directly after lite sanding or do u need to remove the gelcoat? I've painted plenty of plastic, metal, & FB, but this is my first gelcoat...Thnx R/

All the Gelcoats I'm familiar with have the pigment added to them before applying. Lay the glass, color your gelcoat...what are you repairing?

Are you sure those have gelcoat on them? Looks like glass only. Gelcoat is thick and lays ontop of the glass like a thick coat of pant. can you try a test on the inside of the extractor?

Here's my thread with pix of the extractors glued and ready for body prep.
https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...=444494&page=3
They are gel coated (I'm no expert but thats what it looks like and thats what Dennis Mecham told me)...epoxy doesnt stick too well to unsanded portions, so worries about how well bondo will adhere. The glue (Lordco) was similar and I was very careful that I removed any gelcoat where I was bonding.
They're in pretty good shape, but still require smoothing & filling to get paint ready.
