If you cut the stock antenna, the reception (especially FM) will be alot worse. The stock antenna length is specifically tuned for the FM broadcast band (88-108 MHz) based on the radio's attenuation. If you cut it in half, you are essentially tuning the antenna to pick up freqencies much higher than the FM broadcast spectrum. On a stubby antenna, the internal antenna wire is coiled much tighter so the "length" of the antenna is the same as the stock antenna. Therefore, the reception will basically be the same with a much shorter antenna. Sorry, for the lecture. There is a method to my madness sometimes.

looks great. i've been wanting to do this for some time know but the damn mp3 player took the **** and FM is all i have.
Question: what size "L" bracket did u use for that?

This is a great mod. I did it about a year ago and lost minimal reception. It looks alot cleaner aswell!
