Default Smooth black mirror caps... where to buy?

My truck has the chrome mirror caps which are looking pretty crummy. I would like to get them painted to match my truck (indigo blue metallic). I already bought smooth black door and tailgate handles on eBay and had a local shop match and paint them for a good price. I would like to do the same thing with the mirror caps but can't find black plastic smooth ones on eBay, only chrome. Had a hard time finding textured plastic ones too. My painter does not want to paint over the chrome, I guess it can flake off.

Will the chrome sand off the caps well?

I had the chrome crap on my mirror caps too and it started to peel so I went to the car wash and knocked it all off. I then took the caps off and painted them myself(I have the same color truck as you). Not bad for a quick job by me but it's better than they were.

Does the chrome peel off or does it need to be sanded off?

I could of peeled it off but found it to be quicker to use the car wash to take it off. I then lightly sanded it so the primer would adhere and then did 5 coats of paint until it got the same color.
