Aluminum does not rust. It was probably some type of metal in the dirt or whatever was built up on your grill. I have seen this on Stainless Steel Nerf Bars I have installed for customers. It is not the part or metal rusting but something in the road dirt that was on it. Keep it clean and you shouldn't have a problem with it.

you might just have got the wrong grill in the wrong box.happen to my friend a while back.Said it was aluminum but was chrome.

I love alluminum. it doesn't rust it bends easily, but that means you can bend it back. my alluminum speed grill was crushed friday by a hawk(yes i hit a hawk, going 75) it crushed my top grill but i bent it back now you can't even feel or see where it was bent.
