What tires for 17x8 wheels on stockish 05 Silverado
My truck just hit 20k miles and the stock (245/70R17 white letter Generals) tires are almost gone. I know I could've gotten more mileage out of them if I would've rotated them occasionally, but I've never liked them. Poor traction in wet, dry, in hard braking, sharp turns, and even mild acceleration. My truck doesn't have much power at all. It's a stock 5.3L LM7 with a K&N filter, and muffler-back exhaust, stock tranny, 3.23s and G80. I do like how quiet they are on the road though.
Since it's about time to replace the tires anyway, I thought I'd upgrade to some slightly larger and better looking rims. I've got my eye on some 17x8s since the tires are less expensive than taller wheels, and I still do some towing and other truck stuff. My stock tires are 30.5" diameter, and I'd like to stay around that size. I've considered slightly taller to counter the added weight and rolling drag resistance on the highway, and to give a little more of a buffer to protect the rims. However, I know that a shorter tire will offer better handling and acceleration. I'll be reporgramming the computer to keep the speedo reading right either way.
The truck is RWD. I'm undecided on whether or not to lower it. There is a ton of room in the wheelwells.
What size and brand tires would you folks recommend for me?

Trever has 285/60/17's I believe, looks good an stock to mildly lowered trucks. A lil closer to your stock height too. I love my 275/60/17 Toyo Proxes. They are on 17x8's as well. Fit really nice, but so would the 285!

I'd like to have the option of rotating them, eventhough I rarely do that.
In my impala, I had ABS related issues with having shorter tires up front than the back. I tried putting 25" diameter tires on the front when I had 27" tires on the rear, but the ABS light came on and the ABS didn't work. However, when I put the shorter tires on the back I had no problems. This might've had something to do with the 3.73 gears I installed before, but I'm not sure.
