Say I have an 8" wheel with 4" back space and -12mm offset

Would a 7" wheel with 4.5" back space and +12mm offset move it further out or bring it back in towards the truck? Thanks

It would bring it in closer to the truck. Not only will it be closer to the truck, bit it will stick out about an inch and a half less, despite only a .5" difference in backspacing. I wouldn't buy either of those. If it were me I would go for a +12-15 or so on an 8" wide wheel.

basically a 0 offset wheel has the width of the wheel split in half, plus a half inch, of backspacing. On an 8" wheel a 0 offset wheel has 4.5" of backspacing. Since that wheel has 4" of backspacing, the offset if -12mm (equal to a half inch). A negative offset will push the wheel away from the car, while a positive offset tucks the wheel.

a -12 on a stock truck will stick out pretty damn far. I would stay away from it. To give you an idea, the stock SSS wheels have a +20 offset.

I hope that helps!

What about this??? He's saying it will only pull it about a half inch closer...

Right now you have 3.53" of area behind the hub to the back of the wheel (12mm = .47", 8" - 4" - .47" = 3.53")

So you'll have 3.53" from hub to back of the wheel, and 4.47" from the hub to the front edge of the wheel.

If you go with the 2nd wheel, you'll have 7" - 4.5" + .47" = 2.97"

So with this wheel you'll have 2.97" from the hub to the back of the wheel, and 4.03" from the hub to the front edge of the wheel.

Sooo the 2nd more narrow wheel will be closer to the inside of the truck and less flush as the current wheel.
