the light output might appear the same but go park them and shoot the light on a wall. proper HIDs have a nice cut off, HIDs in halogen housings are pretty much like what .T. said, looks like a sawed off shotgun.

I want to get hid's but that writeup i just read made me realize that there is no cheap way to do it right. Time to look for hid headlamps.

Exactly.
Just buy the Silverstar bulbs for $30.00/pr and be done with it. Even WalMart sells them.
