that's what I thought. I just don't have the assembly yet and I can't tell if there's even a place for that bolt in my tahoe. I was surprised to find the dimple in the firewall today and I can fab up the nut strip. I'll be diving into a nv4500 swap in a week or two and the pedal install has me most worried. I can't find much mention of anyone using that top bolt.

if anyone has time, can you tell me what you had to remove to get the pedal assy. In? The electrical box? Dash? Cluster? I'm sure I can figure it out but if I already know then I can just do it.

I have done it a few times now I have a 2005 3500 that i swapped an 8.1 nv4500.

I made a support after the first time I did it and the pedal support lasted about a day from flexing. IF you want to do it right buying the bracket and welding it in would be smart. But that entails dash removal etc. I just made a piece that goes under the plastic where the suport bolt is supposed to be so when i push down on the pedal the whole assembly doesnt flex. I should have some pics let me post them

I originally used this same setup when i converted my 01 hd to manual. I also welded the 2 nuts on the gas pedal assembly plate that are the 2 bolt holes on the pedal assembly. I have a few manual trans gmt800 trucks and so far the allison is the only trans to half way impress me for a slush box.

Thank you. Now I'm back to being concerned about how the pedal install is going to go. I guess I'll go ahead and pull the bottom dash panel off, at least. I appreciate your reply. Even with this huge inormative thread, this is one of the laSt missing pieces. Unless I just missed it before.

I am knee deep in my t56 install. Pedals suck, I havent started them but I do have atomics metal pedal bracket and looking at getting a piece metal and tapping threads in it to bolt the pedals to so I do not have to go through firewall. As far as the top bolt I will have to address it when I can actually get the big *** bracket up there. Horrible design on GM part.

It'll be worth it when you're done, I'm sure. If you can, will you post what you learn?

Yea sure I dont mind. They do not sell the 5 speed crossmember anymore and finding one online or scrap yard is unlikely. So I will have to modify the existing 4l60e crossmember to get it done.

I was thinking about the nut strip for the front two pedal bracket bolts. I think I'll just drill and tap a strip of the thickest bar stock that will fit behind the existing bracket and double sided tape it in there to hold it while I mount the bracket.

BTW, I'm going to get my auto out this week to go trade for my new NV4500 so I don't have any first hand A4 to Manual swap experience yet.

What would really put my mind at ease would be a picture under the dash of what to look for to run the top bolt in on the pedal bracket. I haven't been able to find a picture of that anywhere.
