My new ordered SSS has the m32 code for the trans. This is the 65 right?

So the 4l70E is going to be stronger then the 4l60E I have right now correct? I wondering what is involved in swapping the 4l70E in place of my 4l60E?

yes, the M32 is the 65E. is that what your 06' came with upon delivery?

as for the swap of a 60E to a 70E, it should be a direct bolt up swap.

Do you guys think the swap to the 70 would be worth it? I just hate the way my 60 drop on its face between shift and I'm affraid my 35" tires will put to much pressure on it?

Anyone know the gear ratios for the 4L70E? Are they the same as the 60 but with a higher torque capacity?

The 70e will also make acceleration fall on ist face at the shifts, this is due to the huge rpm drop caused by the large ratio differences in teh 60/65/70e transmissions. These trnas have a 3.06 1st gear ratio and 1.62 2nd(Ithink)and 1:1 3rd and 0.7:1 OD.

The 4l80e has a 2.48 1st, 1.48 2nd and 1:1 3rd and 0.75:OD. It has a much better ratios for acceleration, but because of the taller 1st gear(when compared to the 60 series trans) 1st gear acceleration will be lessened somewhat.

The 80e is less effecient than the 60 series trans and some more hp is lost thru it due to beefier internals like bearings and bushings, but f body owners who switch to th 350's(same 1-3 gear ratios as the 400/4l80e0 often drop 3-4 tenths in the 1/4 mile because of the lessened rpm drop at the shift). The 80e is 100lbs heavier than the 60/65/70e trans.

i would think that the better ratios, would almost even out the 80e's greater ineffeciency and heavier weight.

The 200r4 has the best of both worlds, a 2.74 1st gear with closer ratios than the 60e but is lighter and more effecient than the 80e. These are the auto transmissions used in the turbo buicks and can be built very strong.

The 80e is a good choice esp when a power adder is being used, everyone can afford to give up a few hp to the rear wheels in a tradeoff for much better durability and strength at higher power levels, then add teh better ratios on top.

Hitting a 2.48 1st gear with a stall converter with 4.10 gears will be much easier to make hook up than a 3.06 with a stall converter with 4.10 gears.

I am only at around 260-280 rwhp and I want an 8e behind my engine. I have had very bad luck with teh 60 e trans.
