its not a must but sure is nice. I have a tbtc in mine and like it. Not too harsh but just right. check out Silveradoss.com forum. there is some good info there and good guys. some are on this side also.

If youre going to put a cam in the truck I would replace the lifters at the same time. Its going to require you to take the heads off but its better than having noiser lifters down the road. Ive seen it happen a few times to LSx motor cars with over 100,000 miles and thats with smaller cams such as the TR224.

Depending on which cam you use, the TB converter may not be the right choice. I had one in mine but after the cam swap. my 60 ft dropped because of the power range of the cam. I now have a Yank Pro Truck 3200, it'll set you back about $900. I could have stayed with the TB but I am planning on spraying and I was worried it wouldn't hold up. My cam is a Comp 224-224-581-581 @ 114. It has a noticeable lope, could be more, you could go with a 112 and have more lope. Lope will also be more noticeable with true duals. I have run a best of 13.96 with my mods.
